About CEDMA

CEDMA is a community-based organisation which was initiated in 1977. It believes that it can raise the awareness level of marginalised groups and get them participated in their own development that enhances the quality of life.

It is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation carrying out devolopmental work among the urban and rural poor without any distinction of caste and creed.

Future Plan

• To continue promotion of community-based child care centres to offer childhood oppurtunities  for the  less-abled children in the slums of  Madras city and in the villages of Tamilnadu State.
• Networking of community-based organisations to protect the rights of less-abled children.
• To raise the level of social consciousness to tackle the root causes and to use the community resources through the process of devolopment.

The CEDMA also envisages promotion of  TAMILNADU COUNCIL FOR THE LESS- ABLED CHILDREN  to address the basic rights of children with disability.

Resources

The community-based child care programme is financed through voluntary donations received from persons commited to the cause of  less-abled children. As the programme is being expanded, there is need for more resources to reach out less-abled children in the villages and slums of the Madras city. We hope to raise the required resources from the local and international communities for this worthy cause.
